.:Band of the Day:.

Nedry

Another one of those times when I accidentally bump into something new..
And another one of those times when i'm so fortunate I did!..It's been nearly 9 hours since I first heard them, and I haven't got tired yet of listening repeatedly to Nedry's debut album 'Condors'..
Nedry are a three-piece band formed in London in 2008. The band consists of Chris Amblin and Matt Parker, on guitars, laptops and synthesizers and Ayu Okakita on vocals.
Blending elements like dubstep, trip-hop, electro and ethereal vocals (based on the successful recipes laid down by bands such as Blonde Redhead and artists such as Bjork), this album carries you deep into a trip of glitches, beats and bleeps and vocals that transcend the limits of sheer accompaniment.
With each track been carefully overlooked and constructed, this band has clearly made a statement of itself: they are here to stay.

.:Band of the Day:.

Phantogram

Breathy, husky and synth washed are just the top 3 characteristics of nearly 65% of the records which I've ran across in 2010. However, not all of them manage to penetrate your subconscious,
and as a result most of the times, when you listen to them randomly you think that they're something else.
That is the rule (at least for me), however once in a while you do spot little gems in the pile and when you do, you pull them out, cast them aside and treasure them in your little "exceptions/al" box, a.k.a the hard drive..
I consider this to be the case, for American electro rock duo 'Phantogram' (Josh Carter,Sarah Barthel) whose debut album was released around February 2010 on Barsuk Records.
A merger of trip-hop,electro,rock or simply "street beat, psyche pop" as their music has been noted, with similarities ranging from 'Little Dragon' to 'Blonde Redhead' and 'XX' , a wide variety of styles( as each track cannot be really compared to the one before, but rather seems to have something of its own), under the veil of Sarah Barthel's enchanting vocals, makes 'Eyelid Movies' a record that deserves a piece of your attention, and that you will not want to dismiss easily..

.:Band of the Day:.

Patrick Watson

He is a very favorite artist of mine, which I have been familiar with for quite a while but had totally forgotten about him until I reassesed the music in my hard drive.
The Canadian singer and pianist Patrick Watson was raised outside Montreal, in Hudson, Quebec, singing in the local church choirs as a boy, studying jazz and classical piano performance, composition, and arrangement, and singing and playing keyboards in the ska band Gangster Politics in high school.
Experimenting with various musical styles, and following his trip to Vietnam, he decided to orientate towards chamber pop music.
The result was a 4-piece band which is comprised of fellow musicians and former bandmates, which escort him upon this solo project.
His style can be compared to those of Jeff Buckley, Andrew Bird, Nick Drake to name a few, while it manages in the meanwhile to maintain qualities that set him apart from others.
He has been noted for his successful co-operation with Cinematic Orchestra, on tracks from the
'Ma Fleur' album, including the very prominent 'To build a home'.

.:Band of the Day:.

- Our Last Hope Lost Hope -

The only 10 known facts/personal views/suggestions I can share about them :

1. They are a ten-piece band from Sweden.

2. Their sound can be described as Post-Rock.

3. Yeap, they're Swedish.again.

4. They recorded for the first time during the winter of 2003.
Nobody has ever heard about what happened to them after that.

5. Their music is nice.

6. It's sad.Yes, as a matter of fact its quite sad (in the good sense).

7. No Myspace, only a last.fm page (I've linked on the post's title).
For the official info source, visit: http://www.elysianminorband.net

8. Apparently, the only available news is that they re-issued their debut album
through Future Recordings, sometime last April.

9. If you're in despair, and everything seems vain, I recommend them thoroughly.
They will add an extra something to your situation.

10. Enjoy the vid. below.cu!

- Accra Minoa -

We are made to believe, that most of the time there is nothing worth of notice
beyond the big urban city centres..and that is how worthwhile efforts never get the attention they really deserve..a band from Katerini, Accra Minoa, proves preconceptions such as that mentioned earlier to be truly stereotypical.
I hope and I expect, to see/hear much more from them in the future, and await to see them in Athens.

Lovely mellow, folk sounds comprise today's grey atmosphere..today's soundclouds are
of greek origin..Composer/singer 'Me of Curse'has produced several works of art,
which we can enjoy at his myspace profile.I can't say much about him, since there

- Rien -

Myspace is a big big place, and by a sequence of random events, most times,
you can end up in the most unbelievable pages.
This is what happened once again, and I'm more than glad it did.
They're French and they're talented.
This band is what I call genreless, as their sound ranges from jazz to grunge
to indie. It reminds me both of Air and Battles..go figure..
I was dissapointed to find out however, that they have no Youtube presence, which
makes it all the more difficult for me to share selected songs.
Below, posted are two songs from their space, 'this is our grunge' and 'b.a.s.i.c.
feat. Damon Locks'.

.:Band of the Day:.

- Emily Jane White -

She reminds me of blueish/grey skies and Cat Power..a lot of Cat Power..
yet she has something of her own, which classifies her as a very talented singer
devoted to blending poetry with dark folk sounds..and it is something which she does
quite effortlessly.
Gloomy and haunting vocals are a combination which has been met before, but this one time it catches you're attention for a bit longer than usual..and you give it a listen
once, twice or more again..and you keep going back to it for more.
Enjoy both of her releases ( Dark Undercoat, Victorian American), thoroughly.

- Department of Eagles -

If you're in love with Grizzly Bear's sound, but you have nonetheless worn off everything they have pretty much released (Ep's,Lp's,remixes and so on..), the
closest alternative to obsess to is the band 'Department of Eagles'..a classic for many, most of you are already dedicated fans of the duo (Daniel Rossen -G.B. vocalist- and Fred Nicolaus)and unknown to others. To those out their still starving for the likeliness of grizzlybearishness echoes (which are pretty much defined by Rossen's mesmerising vocals, imao), check them out here

you know them..I know them..we both know they rock.
Last night I was watching true blood, and at the end credits (TB's end credits always have something more to offer) I got a splash of the very sexy 'fresh blood'.
I admit I had forgotten how good those guys sounded..and then a friend
reminded me just how addictive they can be (Jack's Colon..this one's for you ;) ).
They also completed their concept album trilogy sometime in May, with 'Tomorrow Morning' being the latest addition.
I find, that they seem to have created pieces that fit every type of mood, making
it a bit hard for me to choose..so I used some help.

These guys, I hadn't really heard about, but this last hot/humid/sticky Saturday evening I decided,to find out a bit more..8 videos later and with endless hoppings
between the tracks (mostly from their latest album 'Coconut'), I had a pretty clear image about the aftertaste they left..psychedelic/electro/garage rock..to me, something like 'the greenhornes' with splashes of 'neu!' all over..Imao again,'Coconut'could easily be considered one of the best albums of 2010.

I was feeling kind of blue today,so keeping that in mind I was browsing
through music that would be a match with my mood..and voila,I found it..
Two songs from the greek,three-piece band 'Mandy and the Panda'..Unconsciously,
I would press repeat all the time. The subtle, fairy-like voices from the track 'zoo'
that would calm me down and the interesting chorus effect somewhere throughout the middle of 'green fairies' made my day. :)

Yesterday I stumbled across this very interesting Swedish band..the result was a total dedication of 4 hours checking out their diverse sound and a download of their discography, and I have to admit that I was left quite impressed with what I heard.
Especially, Yukimi Nagano (their front-woman)..A singer of Japanese-Swedish descent
with a very mesmerising voice, that sort of urged me to check out her other astonishing collaborations with bands/artists such as 'Sleep Walker' (a Japanese jazz band based in Kyoto), which you can check out here and hip-hop artist/producer Ge-ology which you can check out here..
I can hardly restrain myself from posting most of their videos, so after quite a bit of thinking and pausing i'll contain myself to the following three choices..

.:Band of the Day:.

Elysian Fields is a band founded in 1995, comprised by co-composers Jennifer Charles (vocals, instruments) and Oren Bloedow (guitar). Their music has been sometimes described as "noir rock", due to its sultry, dark and mysterious inflections, be it sonically or lyrically.
Jennifer Charles has been noted for her breathy/sensational voice, which is somewhat
of a trademark for 'Elysian Fields' and has also been distinctly met on other projects, such as 'Lovage'.

In my purely arrogant opinion, one of the best bands i've ever had the pleasure
coming across and which exist out there..I could go on talking forever about how
great i think their music is, but i'd be wandering off the point.
Please..enjoy their greatness for yourselves!

Tango With Lions - Verba time

"..Tango with Lions were originally conceived by song-writer Kat in 2006, after the musical dressing of diaries, photos and book-reading influences and were officially formed during a summer-time jam in 2007, in a beach house.
Johnniethin's blues-folk guitar playing and harmonica style, met cellist Stavros' confident melodies and Ntana's delicate clarinet sound to complete what the upcoming album represents.
Since the recording sessions during 2009-2010 with Ottomo at Fab Liquid Studios, the band's line up has changed, with Yannos now playing guitars and Stefanos on the drums.
Tango with Lions are day-dreamers, hard-workers and music-lovers. .."
